Light Fit-out Al-Balad | Awgaf Nassief

We worked on a light fit-out project in the historic district of Al Balad, Jeddah, where eight heritage houses were transformed into diverse facilities including residential, commercial, hospitality, and cultural spaces. The design focused on blending modern lighting techniques with the charm of traditional Hijazi architecture, using warm and intimate solutions for homes, flexible systems for commercial areas, and atmospheric designs for boutique hospitality and dining. Dr. Atif Nassief and Dr. Alaa Nassief are the current legal owners of the property. During a recent meeting, they shared the following historical insights The house has been in the family’s ownership since 1337 Hijri ( around 110 years ago ), as documented in an official Ottoman deed. The building was originally known as Beit Al-Magla ( بيت المقلى ), a name derived from a historic roastery that once stood across from it. The original structure consisted of a ground floor and a small room on the first floor. A kitchen was located on the ground floor ( المركب ). Dr. Nassief emphasized that it was typical for houses in Historic Jeddah to include a Maqa’ad on the ground floor with Roshans.
